Amidst stiff competition, Maisie has earned herself a well-deserved place among the talented young artists selected for this renowned exhibition.
The Young Artists’ Summer Show, now in its sixth year, serves as a platform for students aged 4–19 across the UK to showcase their creative talents. This open submission exhibition provides an invaluable opportunity for young artists like Maisie to display their artwork both on-site at the Royal Academy and online. Inspired by her love for gerbils, Maisie’s painting has undergone evaluation by a distinguished panel of artists and art professionals. Now, her artwork is up for nomination in the People’s Choice Award 2024 and she needs your vote.
We had the privilege of catching up with Maisie to learn more about her journey and how she’s feeling about this incredible achievement.
What inspired you to submit your artwork initially?
I LOVE gerbils!!! They are my favourite thing. I have 4 gerbils at home (Boba, Cookie, Milkshake and Nugget). I was looking up gerbil facts online and I found a picture of a cute Siamese gerbil called Omelette and I wanted to paint a picture of him. We sent it to the exhibition to see if they would like it too.
How did it feel receiving the news that your artwork has been accepted?
I was very surprised and happy when my Mum told me it had been chosen. It made me proud.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Maisie on this well-deserved recognition. Click the button below to vote for ‘Omelette’ by Maisie, every vote counts!
