Shaping policies that impact neurodivergent people

The Trust contributes to public consultations (run by the Scottish Government or a Committee of The Scottish Parliament) on issues salient to our practice, the people for whom we advocate, and neurodivergence more broadly. We produce ad hoc briefings on important subjects as appropriate, too, outlining our positions on key issues.

We are pleased to respond to the Health, Social Care and Sport Committee’s Call for Views on Stage 2 draft amendments to the National Care Service (Scotland) Bill.

As the National Care Service continues to take shape, it is crucial that the voices and lived experiences of neurodivergent individuals and their families remain at the forefront.

While we acknowledge that recent amendments to the Bill still fall short, they have made the legislation more robust compared to its initial introduction to Parliament in 2022. We are committed to collaborating with partners across the third sector to ensure that the Scottish Government delivers on our shared vision of sustainable, rights-based, person-centred care.

The delays to this Bill have been extensive. Now, more than ever, it is essential that the Bill becomes law, paving the way for the National Care Service to become a reality for those in Scotland who rely on high-quality social care.
